ADD FUEL is the work of Portuguese artist Diogo Machado.

This screen print is rooted in skate culture and in one of the strongest influences of my artistic journey: the work of Jim Phillips. The hand is based on his iconic imagery, The Screaming Hand for Santa Cruz Skateboards, a raw, expressive, and instantly recognisable visual language that shaped the way I learned to look at images. That one hand, made all the difference.

My first skateboard, the yellow Santa Cruz Rob Roskopp deck, left a lasting mark on me. The bold yet sharp line work, the punk energy of the visuals, and the way graphics adapted perfectly to the shape of the board opened a door that has never closed.
The patterns in this print bring together elements from the skate universe, movement, flow and repetition alongside visual rhythms inspired by Phillips’ work. Not as a direct quotation, but as a tribute and continuation of that energy.
More than nostalgia, this piece honours skateboarding as a space of freedom, experimentation and the culture that helped shape my visual language.
